Ariocarpus fissuratus
Growing near Lophophora williamsii var. echinata
habitat in West Texas.
This species is not uncommonly found in the general vicinity of Lophophora
but is usually some yards away.
We have, thus far, encountered only one instance
with them growing within a few feet of each other.
Notice how much this plant can contract and/or sacrifice tissue in
response to drought.
Growing with Selaginella
in the two of the lower images above.
Growing a few miles away from Lophophora williamsii var. echinata
habitat in West Texas.
Unearthed by a digging animal, probably by a javelina, in Terrell
County, Texas.

Additional Ariocarpus species that we have encountered in
the field:
Ariocarpus
kotschoubeyanus
Ariocarpus trigonus
