No other organization has done as much to ensure the continuance of the peyote population as CCI or to ensure that research is available to answer the questions needed by federal regulators, peyote harvesters, the NAC, scientists, and the many others who have an interest in the plant. CCI has dedicated itself to enabling preservation of peyote and other endangered species through a research and community engagement process, making its data available to anyone who wishes access.  It has focused on research to:

  • Measure the size and growth (or diminishment) of populations;
  • Determine and communicate proper techniques for harvesting and cultivation;
  • Studying the ecology of Lophophora;
  • Compiling the vegetation associated with Lophophora;
  • Develop underlying research methods for estimating plant populations in larger areas and utilize those techniques to monitor for harvesting;
  • And documenting the longstanding historical use of peyote through centuries of use.

Research Station

CCI announces completion of its Research Outpost outside of Alpine, TX. The Research Outpost will be made available to qualified researchers who need access to hospitality and vital lab equipment while conducting fieldwork and analysis – especially to those from other countries who may need access to facilities for a lengthy period of time. While the walls are up, the interior is still under construction. Your donation can help bring about completion.

If this resource excites you or you simply recognize the immense value of such a facility for biologists engaged in desert research in West Texas, consider donating to help this project reach its goals.

Even a small donation is meaningful and appreciated. As a 501(c)3, all donations are tax deductible.
