      Both Astrophytum asterias and Matucana madisoniorum are mistakenly rumored in the lay press to be hallucinogenic.
         Astrophytum asterias was shown by Martin Terry's research group to contain no alkaloids. (unpublished research)
         Using Hutchison material provided by one of Hutchison's former students, Alexander T. Shulgin found that Matucana madisoniorum contains no alkaloids. (unpublished research)
